The sacking of Harry Redknapp will reportedly prompt Manchester United to attempt a double swoop for Tottenham Hotspur duo Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.

Manchester United are reportedly hopeful of signing Tottenham Hotspur duo Gareth Bale and Luka Modric following Harry Redknapp's departure from White Hart Lane.

The Red Devils had been linked with both players over the past six months and, while Modric's Spurs future had been very much in doubt, Bale was firmly expected to remain with the Londoners this summer.

However, the Manchester Evening News understands that the sacking of Redknapp has given Bale second thoughts about staying with his current employers.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who is looking to improve his ageing squad to try to regain the Premier League title next season, wants to bring both players to Old Trafford this summer, according to the Metro.

Between them, Bale and Modric scored 13 of Tottenham's 66 Premier League goals last season.
