Manchester United exercise their option to extend Tahith Chong's contract for another 12 months until 2023, according to a report.

Manchester United have reportedly triggered their option to extend Tahith Chong's contract by another 12 months.

The 22-year-old has struggled to become a regular part of the Red Devils' setup and was shipped out on loan to Championship side Birmingham City for the 2021-22 season.

Chong has been a regular starter for the Blues in the second tier when fit but has been limited to 18 league games this term due to thigh surgery - scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process.

The attacker's deal at Old Trafford was due to expire at the end of the season, but The Mirror now reports that the Red Devils have activated their option to keep him on the books until 2023.

Such a move means that Man United will not see Chong walk away on a free transfer come the summer, but he has only made 16 appearances for his parent club and his long-term future remains unclear.

Chong has also spent time out on loan with Werder Bremen and Club Brugge after arriving at Man United from Feyenoord as a 16-year-old in 2016.
