Manchester United have reportedly withdrawn their interest in Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, who is edging closer to joining rivals Liverpool.
The Uruguay international is one of the most sought-after marksman in Europe after a standout 2021-22 campaign in front of goal, netting 34 times in 41 appearances for the Portuguese giants across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has been on the radar of a plethora of top European clubs including Man United, but Goal journalist James Robson claims that the Red Devils are no longer in the race for his signature as they are not prepared to enter a bidding war with Liverpool.
Liverpool are understood to have agreed a club-record £86m deal with Benfica for the transfer of Nunez, with the Reds hoping to complete the signing "as soon as possible".
United, meanwhile, are now set to prioritise the signing of a centre-midfielder, with Frenkie De Jong believed to be their primary target, although their first bid has allegedly been rejected by Barcelona.
The likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers' Ruben Neves, Napoli's Fabian Ruiz and PSV Eindhoven's Ibrahim Sangare have also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
