Manchester United have reportedly made a £24m bid for Roma defender Mehdi Benatia to fend off competition from the likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini was reported to have flown to London yesterday in an attempt to strike a deal with Chelsea for the centre-back.
Sabatini has also allegedly spoken to Manchester United representatives, who tabled the £24m bid to try and beat their rivals to Benatia's signature.
Roma value Benatia closer to £30m and have hinted that he could be on his way out, according to the Daily Express.
United boss Louis van Gaal has been linked with a host of central defenders this transfer window, with Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels being touted as one of the Dutchman's most-wanted targets.
