Manchester United were reportedly prepared to sell Nemanja Matic to AC Milan during the January transfer window.
As a result of Scott McTominay's knee injury, Matic has been handed regular football by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over the past five weeks.
However, according to Calciomercato, that did not stop the Premier League giants from offering out the Serbia international last month.
The report claims that United were happy for the 31-year-old to make the switch to San Siro, aware that Milan were in the process of making changes to their squad.
Nevertheless, the Italian outfit are said to have turned down the opportunity to bring in Matic, instead preferring to focus on other areas of the team.
While Matic has just under six months left on his deal, United have the option of extending his terms by a further 12 months.
