Newcastle United have reportedly entered the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount this summer, with Liverpool also interested in the England international.
Mount has been a regular fixture for the Blues over the past few seasons and this campaign has been no different, with the 24-year-old appearing 23 times in the Premier League for the Londoners, scoring three goals and assisting on two occasions.
The 36-time England international's current deal at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024, and the midfielder could be set to leave his boyhood club after the conclusion of this campaign.
According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have joined the race to secure the services of Mount for next season and will rival the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus for his signature.
The report suggests that with Mount yet to agree new terms at Chelsea which would extend his stay past the end of the 2023-24 season, the West London club are looking to sell the player this summer to avoid losing Mount for free at the end of his contract.
That situation was played out with defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen last summer - something Chelsea do not want to repeat with Mount especially considering his sale would help the club comply with FFP regulations.
Chelsea face a decisive clash with Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League round-of-16 tie this evening, before they travel to Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
