Report: Patrice Evra to trigger contract extension

Patrice Evra is reportedly in control of his Manchester United future after triggering an extension clause in his contract, which is due to expire in the summer.

Patrice Evra's future at Manchester United now seems to be in his own hands after reportedly earning a contract extension due to his number of appearances this season.

The Frenchman's current deal at Old Trafford expires at the end of the campaign and he was expected to follow fellow experienced defender Nemanja Vidic out of the club.

United have been linked with left-back replacements for Evra over the last 18 months, with manager David Moyes monitoring Southampton's Luke Shaw after missing out on Everton's Leighton Baines.

However, The Times claims that Evra could take up the option of remaining with the Red Devils after starting 25 of their 26 Premier League games this term, which entitles him to a new contract as part of the agreement that he signed with the club in February 2011.

The 32-year-old, whose salary is reportedly in excess of £6m a year, has been linked with a return to his former side Monaco and their French rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
