Robin van Persie hints at Manchester United exit

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie admits that he may be forced to leave the club in order to keep alive his hopes of playing for the Netherlands at Euro 2016.

Robin van Persie has hinted that he is weighing up a Manchester United exit amid speculation of his future.

The Netherlands striker has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford after struggling for form and fitness during the 2014-15 campaign.

The 31-year-old was used sparingly by Louis van Gaal toward the end of last season and Galatasaray admitted their interest, before pulling out for monetary reasons.

With Euro 2016 just under 12 months away, Van Persie hinted that staying at United could jeopardise his hopes of representing his country in France next summer.

"When I signed for United, I knew these kind of [reports] would appear," he told ELF Voetbal. "Next year is the European Championship. That tournament is going to play a big role in the choice I will make.

"I have to be in my best form [for Euro 2016]. But most important is the wish of my wife and children. Whatever I do Bouchra, Shaqueel and Dina Layla are the highest of my priorities. They have to be happy."

Van Persie, whose contract expires next summer, netted 10 times in 27 Premier League appearances last term.
