Manchester United lead the race to sign Crystal Palace defender Nathaniel Clyne.

Manchester United are reportedly confident that they lead the race to sign Crystal Palace star Nathaniel Clyne.

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who was understood to be impressed with the defender's performance at Old Trafford in November, could be prepared to make a £3m bid for his services this winter, according to Goal.com.

Clyne, currently in the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park, is expected to leave the club after chairman Steve Parish publicly conceded defeat in his efforts to re-sign the 20-year-old on Tuesday.

Newcastle, Fulham and Everton have also shown interest in the young Eagles defender.
