Louis van Gaal unsure of Darren Fletcher's Manchester United future

Louis van Gaal suggests that Darren Fletcher could leave Manchester United this month following reported interest from West Ham, West Brom and Valencia.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has suggested that Darren Fletcher could leave Old Trafford after almost 20 years at the club.

The midfielder, who is United's longest-serving player, has been linked to fellow Premier League sides West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion, as well as Spanish outfit Valencia.

The Scotland international, whose career in recent years has been halted by a chronic bowel condition, will come to the end of his current contract in the summer.

"He is still a Manchester United player - that is the update," Van Gaal told reporters. "Darren Fletcher is the only player who has already won the FA Cup in my squad. He is also one of my three captains. That is what I can tell you."

When asked in this afternoon's press conference if Fletcher is staying, Van Gaal said: "I'm not sure. It is the transfer month."

United have acquired just one player in the transfer window so far - the free transfer of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes.
