How Barcelona could line up with Kai Havertz

Sports Mole looks at how Barcelona could line up if Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz arrives at Camp Nou.

Barcelona are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Bayer Leverkusen attacker Kai Havertz during this summer's transfer window.

The 20-year-old, who has also been linked with Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Manchester United, has scored 10 times and registered eight assists in 34 appearances for Leverkusen this term.

Big-money deals appear to be off the table for Barca this summer, but it has been claimed that the Spanish champions could attempt to agree a swap deal for Havertz.

The Germany international has contributed an impressive 38 goals and 30 assists in 139 appearances for his Bundesliga side in all competitions since breaking into the first team.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Quique Setien's side could line up if they bring Havertz to Camp Nou ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

POSS BAR XI HAV

Havertz's position in the Barca XI would be incredibly interesting if he arrived this summer; indeed, the German has shown his versatility by operating in a number of different areas during the 2019-20 campaign.

The youngster has played as a right winger, central midfielder, attacking midfielder and even as a central striker at club level this term, but the majority of his action has come in the number 10 position.

There is no question that he has the capabilities of turning out in a wide right area, but Lionel Messi's presence would make that spot difficult to secure.

That said, much will depend on what happens with Lautaro Martinez; the Argentina international continues to be linked with a move to Camp Nou, but it remains to be seen whether the Catalan giants are capable of agreeing a swap deal with Antonio Conte's side for the in-demand centre-forward.

Antoine Griezmann is expected to stay at the club despite some recent speculation surrounding his future, and a very exciting front four could see Havertz line up alongside Griezmann, Martinez and Messi.

As a result, there would be a lot of defensive onus on Frenkie de Jong and Sergio Busquets in the middle of the park, although it would not be a surprise to see another midfielder, potentially Juventus's Miralem Pjanic, arrive at Camp Nou, particularly as Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal could both be on their way out.

There are not expected to be many changes further back, though, with Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet lining up in central defence. Perhaps the only talking point in a defensive area is the right-back spot as Nelson Semedo continues to be linked with an exit, potentially opening the door for Sergi Roberto to nail down the position.
