Marseille's Ligue 1 title hopes are dealt a blow with a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to struggling Nancy.

Marseille have suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to struggling Nancy at home in Ligue 1.

The result has left Elie Baup's side six points adrift of league leaders Paris Saint-Germain, while Nancy have moved to within four points of safety.

Following a goalless opening 45 minutes, the hosts were reduced to 10 men just before the hour mark as Joey Barton received his second yellow card of the contest.

Nancy's winner came in fortunate circumstances with 73 minutes on the clock when Andre Ayew put the ball into his own net from a corner.
