Andre-Pierre Gignac doubts chances of being named in World Cup squad

Andre-Pierre Gignac insists that he will not be taken to the World Cup by France manager Didier Deschamps.

Andre-Pierre Gignac has claimed that he has given up hope of being named in France's World Cup squad.

Despite impressing for Marseille by scoring 16 goals in Ligue 1 this season, the 28-year-old is adamant that his efforts have not been enough to persuade Didier Deschamps to take him to Brazil this summer.

"The statistics tell the story," Gignac told L'Equipe. "I have scored 22 goals in 42 competitive matches, so it's my best season in terms of stats.

"I said I would force Deschamps to take me. I did what I could, I have had a good season - but it is not enough.

"I was selected in September and played 30 minutes against Georgia, but I was not decisive. I was a bit hesitant, which is not like me."

Gignac has scored four goals in 17 appearances for France.
