Montpellier earn home win

Souleymane Camara, Daniel Congre and Younes Belhanda score for Montpellier as they beat Valenciennes 3-1 at home.

Montpellier have defeated Valenciennes 3-1 at home in Ligue 1 to maintain their hopes of European qualification for next season.

The hosts made the breakthrough after 18 minutes when Souleymane Camara headed home Remy Cabella's delivery from close range.

Valenciennes equalised five minutes before the interval through Opa Nguette, who turned in Maor Melikson's cross.

However, Montpellier restored their advantage on the hour mark, Daniel Congre finding himself with a loose ball inside the area following a corner and making no mistake from close range.

Younes Belhanda secured the points for the defending French champions four minutes from full time with a right-footed shot from inside the Valenciennes box that found the bottom-right corner.
