Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson reportedly suffers another injury setback that could see him ruled out until after the October international break.

Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson has reportedly suffered a further setback in his battle with an injury, that could see him miss out until late October.

The 29-year-old was withdrawn in the Magpies' 2-2 draw with Southampton prior to the international break with a suspected quad injury, and he was unable to make the squad for Saturday's trip to Manchester United, as manager Steve Bruce confirmed in the lead up to that encounter.

Initially after the Southampton game, Bruce was hopeful that his forward would return before the end of September, with upcoming clashes against Leeds United, Watford and Wolverhampton Wanderers looming before the next international break, but Wilson is said to have suffered another serious setback in his road to recovery.

According to The Athletic, there are now major suggestions that the former Bournemouth man could be sidelined for a further six weeks, ruling him out of those three matches and the run upon their return to action from the break.

The Magpies paid £20m to capture Wilson from Bournemouth at the beginning of last season, and he went on to register 12 Premier League goals in his debut campaign at St. James' Park, before starting the new season with two goals from his opening three appearances prior to his injury.
