Daley Blind: 'Daryl Janmaat anxious over Newcastle United relegation prospect'

Daley Blind reveals that Newcastle defender Daryl Janmaat wanted to use the international break as a shop window in case the Magpies are relegated.

Daley Blind has claimed that injured Newcastle United right-back Daryl Janmaat was disappointed to pull out of international duty because it deprives him of the chance to impress potential suitors.

The 26-year-old picked up a knee injury in the Magpies' 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Sunday, ruling him out of the Netherlands' friendlies with France and England in the coming days.

Newcastle are 19th in the Premier League table, three points adrift of safety, and the Manchester United man says that Janmaat is upset to have missed the chance to put himself in the shop window in case they are relegated.

"Janmaat regretted terribly that he had to cancel [joining up with the squad]," Blind told De Telegraaf.

"He wanted to be with Oranje [as he was] anxious to be in the spotlight for another club in case Newcastle United are actually relegated."

Rafael Benitez's side, who have a game in hand over 17th-placed Norwich City, have eight matches in which to preserve their top-flight status.
