Newcastle fans will sing Pavel Srnicek chant to be played to comatose goalkeeper

Newcastle United fans will sing 'Pavel is a Geordie' against Everton today so that the recording can be played to the hospitalised former goalkeeper.

Newcastle United supporters have been asked to sing 'Pavel is a Geordie' at half time in this evening's Premier League match against Everton so that the recording can be played to hospitalised former goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek.

Srnicek, 47, is in an induced coma in the Czech Republic after suffering a heart attack while running near his home last weekend.

In a tweet that has since been posted by Magpies great Alan Shearer, Srnicek's account said: "Pavs family have requested fans to sing Pavel Is A Geordie at half time today so that it can be recorded and played to him at bedside #nufc."

Srnicek, who was recently in Newcastle promoting his book Pavel is a Geordie, made 190 appearances for the Magpies between 1991 and 1998.
