Jonas Gutierrez apologises to "angry" Newcastle United fans

Jonas Gutierrez apologises to Newcastle United supporters following his side's 4-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Newcastle United winger Jonas Gutierrez has issued an apology to the club's supporters following their opening Premier League defeat to Manchester City.

The Magpies succumbed to a 4-0 loss at the hands of City, in a game that resulted in defender Steven Taylor getting sent off for whacking Sergio Aguero in the back of the head.

"The fans are going to be angry with us," the Shields Gazette quotes Gutierrez as saying. "We have to apologise to them for the result. We must try to give them the points next week.

"We have to take three points in each of the two home games. We have two games at home. We have to be strong at home now. It's so important."

Newcastle take on West Ham United on Saturday.
