Former Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear is reported to be on the verge of being named director of football at the club.

Former Newcastle United manager Joe Kinnear is reportedly on the verge of being named director of football at the club.

The 66-year-old took charge of the Magpies in September 2008 before health problems ended his spell at St James' Park the following year.

However, the former Nepal, Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest boss could make a return in a more senior role, according to the Newcastle Chronicle.

Newcastle are believed to be in the process of restructuring their backroom setup ahead of the new Premier League season.
