Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez: 'Standard set in Chelsea draw'

Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez feels that the Magpies set a performance benchmark in their draw against Chelsea, a level he believes they must achieve in future matches.

Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez has stated that the team have set a benchmark for further performances in their clash with Chelsea.

The 22-year-old, who opened the scoring in the 2-2 draw, believes that Steve McClaren's men have now set the standard for the type of showing they can achieve in future fixtures.

"It was a very good performance and we deserved to win. I am very happy to have got my first goal of the season but also really sad because we dropped two points. It was a good time to score, just before half time. It made us confident, and the second goal as well helped that even more," the striker told the club's official website.

"The pressure came off me a little. I am a striker and I have to score goals, so it felt very good. We have to make sure that we're like this every single game against every team. That is what we have to think and that is how we have to work.

"This is our standard. This is what we have to keep and there are no excuses because we have shown we can play to this level."

The Magpies travel to the Etihad to take on Manchester City in their next Premier League fixture.
