Martin Dubravka keen to stay at Newcastle United

Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka admits that he is looking to secure a permanent stay at Newcastle United after penning a loan deal from Sparta Prague.

Goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has admitted that he cannot afford to be complacent in his bid to earn a permanent deal at Newcastle United.

During the January transfer window, Sparta Prague allowed Dubravka to join the Magpies on loan until the end of the campaign, and the Czech Republic stopper starred on his debut as Newcastle recorded a 1-0 victory over Manchester United.

Dubravka has quickly become a fan favourite at St James' Park, but the new arrival has acknowledged that he must work hard to establish himself at the Premier League side.

The 29-year-old told The Guardian: "I hope I'll stay. It's amazing here. Everybody in Slovakia knows about Newcastle; it's a big name in my country.

"I know many people talk about the top six in England but, in Slovakia, Newcastle's one of the most famous clubs. Everyone wants to be a hero of a club like Newcastle but I have to take this step by step. If you think things are going to go well, then they won't."

Dubravka is expected to make his second appearance for Newcastle when they face Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium this weekend.
