Newcastle United are reportedly hoping to seal a move for French international forward Bafetimbi Gomis on a free transfer this week.
The Daily Mail claims that owner Mike Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley have been in talks with representatives of the 28-year-old forward, who is out of contract with Ligue 1 side Lyon.
It is thought that only minor details need to be resolved before the transfer is complete, and they hope to conclude a deal for the striker by Monday.
Gomis, who is reportedly seeking wages of around £100,000 a week, is also said to be attracting interest from Turkish giants Galatasaray.
Meanwhile, one player who could be leaving Newcastle is full-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, with Marseille rumoured to be winning the race for the 25-year-old.
