Former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon has admitted that he dreams of going back to Tyneside.

Rondon spent one season on loan with the Magpies during the 2018-19 season, chalking up 11 Premier League goals and also collecting the club's Player of the Season award.

However, the Venezuelan's temporary spell at St James's Park from West Bromwich Albion was not made permanent, but Rondon still yearns to appear before the Newcastle faithful again someday.

"If you ask me again if I want to come back then of course. I have no doubt about going back to Newcastle," Rondon said in quotes attributed to The Mirror.

"St James' Park is so big. I remember going there for the first time, I think my two kids were with me, I went for a walk in the stadium and I took a picture when I went in the entrance. Then you think 50,000 fans will be there and my daughter said: 'Dad, you will play here...?' I will try!.

"It was fantastic for me. To play there as a player is fantastic. But of course my priority now is in China and we will see what happens with the virus and the league. But if you give me the chance to come back then I will take it.

"I love to watch the videos, the clips of the games and that game against Everton and that's why if there was a chance to go back to England in January - if it was Newcastle, in my heart there will always be a bigger space for Newcastle.

"It's interesting what's happening, I follow it [the takeover] very closely. I hope it will be a good decision because I think Newcastle can be such a big team in the Premier League. It's such a big club and I think with the right project then the club could be top five, top four. Everything is about the project, for the history, for the fans and it could be amazing for the club. Of course I dream of going back!

"I think about the noise, the supporters all of the time. I love the pressure. It's the best. They are pushing me, I have to be at my best and then I score - and the noise is amazing."

Rondon currently plies his trade with former Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez at Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang.
