Joey Barton has said that he is good enough to earn a recall to the England team.
The new Queens Park Rangers captain has just one international cap to his name and speaking in his programme notes ahead of last night's goalless draw with Newcastle declared he believes he can add to the tally.
"I feel that I have got something to offer England. I'm the eternal optimist - and not without reason,” he said.
"I have to do my job for QPR first, but if I'm doing the business on a Saturday, that gives me the ability to push myself into the reckoning. That's all I can take care of at the minute.
"I need to get it right on the pitch and I need to start making waves for this football club. If good enough and selected, I'll be proud and more than happy to represent my country.”
Barton joined QPR from Newcastle on a free transfer in August.
