Michel Platini loses appeal against FIFA ban at Court of Arbitration for Sport

Michel Platini loses his appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport to have his 90-day ban from football lifted.

Michel Platini has lost his appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport to have his 90-day provisional FIFA ban lifted.

In a statement this morning, CAS said that the ban from all football activity should be upheld but not extended.

Platini, the UEFA president, will therefore not be present at tomorrow's Euro 2016 draw, which will decide the groups for next year's tournament in his homeland of France.

The 60-year-old, along with FIFA president Sepp Blatter, is now facing a life ban from football activity over a £1.3m payment he received in 2011 for work said to be carried out almost a decade previously.

FIFA's ethics committee is expected to make its decision on Platini's future by December 21.
