Premier League to use vanishing spray this season

The Premier League confirms that it will use vanishing spray this season.

The Premier League has confirmed that vanishing spray will be used during matches this season.

The spray was first introduced at this year's World Cup to mark the distance between a free kick and a wall.

Other leagues across Europe, including Serie A and La Liga, will also use the technology in the upcoming campaign.

"At the Premier League we are open to developments that enhance the competition and it was clear from watching the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil that vanishing spray benefitted referees, players, and all of those who watched the matches," chief executive Richard Scudamore told the Premier League's official website.

"Having witnessed that, and following consultation with our clubs and the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited), we have decided to introduce it in the Barclays Premier League and look forward to having it in place for the 2014-15 season."

The 2014-15 Premier League season gets underway on August 16.
