Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore decides not to impose the 39th game proposal because he says he is a "realist".

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has revealed that the idea of English teams playing a 39th game abroad is no longer a consideration.

The proposal, which was made three years ago, to include an extra game in England's league season has been scrapped due to the negative reaction from fans.

"I'm a realist," Scudamore told talkSPORT. "We floated the idea and said, 'how about playing some games internationally?' I actually thought it was a good idea, and some other people thought it was a good idea, but very quickly the media got on our backs and public opinion really ruled it out.

"It's certainly not going to happen on my watch and I'm not leaving any time soon. I'm not going to be raising it again because I don't think it's worth it in the scheme of things."

The issue was raised following Scottish Premier League chief executive's Neil Doncaster's notion to organise Celtic and Rangers Old Firm derbies away from Scotland.
