Preview: Nice vs. Strasbourg - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Ligue 1 clash between Nice and Strasbourg, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Nice host Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on Sunday, with the visitors looking to remain outside of the relegation zone.

The home team, meanwhile, are aiming to secure a top-half finish for the sixth successive season.

Match preview

After a disappointing start to the season which saw former Arsenal player Patrick Vieira lose his job as manager, as well as the club prematurely exit the Europa League at the group stage, finishing inside the top half of the table would represent a solid recovery for Adrian Ursea's side.

Their home form has been particularly impressive of late, having taken 13 points from a possible 15 in their last five league matches at Allianz Riviera, which could spell bad news for Strasbourg on Sunday.

Despite losing Pierre Lees-Melou to a red card in the 52nd minute against Brest last time out, Ursea's side managed to recover from 2-1 down to secure another home victory via Hassane Kamara's dramatic last-gasp winner.

A similar performance while retaining 11 players on the pitch should serve them well against a struggling Strasburg side on Sunday, with a win enough to guarantee their place in the top half of the table.

Having comfortably survived in their three seasons since being promoted under Thierry Laurey in 2017, Les Coureurs are in serious danger of relegation after failing to win any of their last five matches.

Laurey's side fell 3-0 behind at home to Montpellier last time out, with Ludovic Ajorque and Kevin Zohi's second-half strikes ultimately proving to be in vein as their side fell to an 18th league defeat of the season.

Strasbourg have proven harder to beat on the road of late, though, with only Lyon and Rennes managing to beat Laurey's side in their nine away matches since the turn of the year.

Depending on results elsewhere, however, even a draw away to Nice on Sunday may not prove enough to remain outside of the relegation places heading into next weekend's final day, with 18th-placed Nantes breathing down their neck only one point behind.

Team News

Nice will be without Lees-Melou after the midfielder's dismissal against Brest earned him a one-match suspension, but Jordan Lotomba will be available once more having served his ban last time out.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Stanley Nsoki are both doubtful due to calf and groin injuries respectively, while Dante, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Myziane Maolida have been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.

Strasbourg, meanwhile, are likely to remain without Idriss Saadi and Abdul Majeed Waris due to knee and muscle injuries respectively, with Mohamed Simakan and Lebo Mothiba both out for the season with serious knee injuries.

Zohi may be hoping for a start in attack having impressed from the bench, but Habib Diallo and Ajorque are likely to continue in tandem.

Nice possible starting lineup:
Benitez; Lotomba, Todibo, Saliba, Kamara; Attal, Claude Maurice, Boudaoui, Thuram, Lopes; Dolberg

Strasbourg possible starting lineup:
Sels; Guilbert, Mitrovic, Djiku, Caci; Aholou, Bellegarde, Lienard, Thomasson; Diallo, Ajorque

We say: Nice 1-1 Strasbourg

We can envisage a share of the spoils on Sunday, with Strasbourg likely to come out fighting as they look to avoid relegation.

Laurey's side have been better on the road than at home of late, with avoiding defeat likely to keep their fate in their own hands heading into the final day.
