Poland held to draw by Montenegro

Poland are held by Montenegro, a result that leaves their hopes of reaching the World Cup in the balance.

Poland lost ground in their quest to reach next summer's World Cup after being held at home by Montenegro in Warsaw on Friday.

The visitors were ahead after 12 minutes thanks to Dejan Damjanovic as Montenegro looked to maintain top spot.

However, Poland were quickly level thanks to Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski and the hosts began to create more chances largely through captain Jacob Blaszczykowski.

They were unable to edge in front before half time, thanks to keeper Mladen Bozovic.

Poland continued to have more chances in the second half but couldn't find the crucial goal, with Blaszczykowski forcing another save out of Bosovic.

However, Montenegro also carried their own goal threat and Southampton's Artur Boruc had to be alert to keep out substitute Fatos Beciraj late in the game.

The draw means Montenegro are knocked off the top of Group H after England's win over Moldova put them ahead on goal difference.

Poland now find themselves four points behind third-placed Ukraine but have three games left to salvage their qualification hopes including a trip to Wembley.
