Paris Saint-Germain announces that forward Neymar will likely be absent with an ankle injury until January.

Paris Saint-Germain have announced that Neymar will likely be absent until the middle of January.

The forward suffered an ankle injury during the closing stages of Sunday's 3-1 victory at Saint-Etienne, forcing his withdrawal.

Neymar appeared to be in considerable pain as he was taken off, suggesting that he may face a prolonged spell on the sidelines.

In an official injury update on Monday, PSG said that the 29-year-old is expected to be missing for "six to eight weeks".

As it stands, the French giants have eight matches scheduled between now and the end of January, all but one of them being played in Ligue 1.

PSG also enter the Coupe de France before Christmas with a total of three ties potentially being held before the end of January.
