HM Revenue and Customs apply for Glasgow Rangers to be place in administration just 24 hours after the club submit a similar proposal.

HM Revenue and Customs have applied for Glasgow Rangers to be placed in administration.

The legal move has countered the club's own bid yesterday afternoon to file for protection against its creditors.

Rangers chairman Craig Whyte admitted on Monday evening that he had little choice but to submit a proposal for the club to enter administration.

However, HMRC are now hoping that a hearing can take place at the Court of Session in Edinburgh later today.

Should the case be heard this afternoon, a judge will pass verdict on who can appoint the club's administrators.
