Graeme Murty: 'I do not have final say on Rangers January transfers'

Rangers caretaker Graeme Murty reveals that final decisions on the club's January transfers will be made by director of football Mark Allen.

Rangers caretaker manager Graeme Murty has revealed that he will not have the final say on the club's January transfer decisions.

The 43-year-old is set to remain in temporary charge of Rangers until the end of December at least after Derek McInnes opted to stay with Aberdeen.

Murty claims that he will be involved in transfer discussions, but the club's director of football Mark Allen will have the last word on potential deals.

"I'm not involved in identifying targets," Murty told BBC Sport. "I'm involved in identifying characteristics and areas of the squad we need to strengthen.

"Our recruitment department and Mark are looking at targets. They are looking at players with the characteristics required to play for this football club.

"We're in daily discussions, but as it comes closer to that time and to individual players, you'll have to talk to Mark because he's in charge of that side of it at the moment in our current set-up.

"I haven't been told anything is going to stop us getting a player that we like. But, similarly, I haven't yet been that detailed with specific targets as yet. That will just have to take care of itself when January comes."

Murty stepped up from his Under-20s coaching position at Rangers after Pedro Caixinha was sacked.
