Jem Karacan backs Eamonn Dolan to be successful as caretaker manager of Reading, following Brian McDermott's sacking earlier this week.

Jem Karacan has described Eamonn Dolan as "a fantastic character" ahead of Reading's trip to Old Trafford tomorrow.

The Royals' Academy manager will take charge of the side for their game against Manchester United following the dismissal of Brian McDermott earlier this week.

The midfielder, who came through Reading's youth system, told the club's website: "Obviously, it's disappointing when you see your manager leave. Brian was amazing for us in the time he was here, but we have to move on quickly.

"I've known Eamonn since I was 15 and worked with him day in day out. He has been brilliant, not just with me but helping the other lads come through the youth system.

"You know what you get from him, he makes it clear for each player before the game. He's a fantastic character, he's been here a long time and I'm sure he will do well for us."

Nigel Adkins, Paolo Di Canio and Phil Parkinson are among the favourites with the bookmakers to be McDermott's permanent replacement.
