Nicky Shorey believes one or two new faces could help Reading avoid relegation, but nothing drastic is needed.

Reading defender Nicky Shorey has insisted that the current crop of players are capable of assuring Premier League safety this season.

The Royals are currently bottom of the Premier League and there have been rumours that they will sign some new faces in January.

"New players always bring new enthusiasm and make the players that are here buck up their ideas a bit and push on," said Shorey in the Reading Chronicle. "Hopefully we will add a few but we don't need to go silly.

"The lads have shown that they are more than capable but we need to do it for 90 minutes.

"Spending money doesn't always get you where you want to be. We have to pull together as a group."

Reading face Arsenal on Monday evening at 8pm.
