Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho says that winning the Champions League with the club will not have a bearing on whether he extends his stay there.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that his team's performance in this season's Champions League will not have any bearing on his future.

The 50-year-old left both Porto and Inter Milan after lifting the trophy with them, but has dismissed speculation that winning it with the Spanish giants would result in the same outcome.

"I never base my decisions on whether I win or not," Mourinho told The Sun. "I work at the top level every day, thinking only about the club and never worrying about myself."

Mourinho has been linked with a return to the Premier League, with former club Chelsea and champions Manchester City tipped as potential destinations.

He guided Real to the quarter-finals of this season's Champions League with a 2-3 aggregate victory over Manchester United.
