Preview: Real Madrid vs. Copenhagen

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Champions League Group B clash between Real Madrid and Copenhagen in Spain.

Real Madrid will attempt to move onto six points in Group B when they welcome Danish outfit Copenhagen to the Spanish capital in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The clash at the Santiago Bernabeu will be the first time that the two sides have met in a competitive fixture, but Copenhagen have faced Spanish opposition on eight separate occasions - drawing four and losing four - but they secured a point against Barcelona in the group stages of the 2010-11 campaign.

Madrid enter the match on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid in La Liga at the weekend, but they began their Champions League campaign in style with a 6-1 win over Turkish outfit Galatasaray on matchday one.

The away side, meanwhile, also suffered domestic disappointment at the weekend with a 3-2 defeat to Brondby leaving them in 11th position in the Danish top flight. However, they did secure a credible 1-1 draw at home to Juventus in their opening match of the group.

Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti could ring the changes following the defeat to Atletico at the weekend with Iker Casillas expected to take Diego Lopez's place between the sticks, while French centre-back Raphael Varane is also expected to make his first start of the season.

Alvaro Morata could also replace under-fire Karim Benzema as the lone striker, with Gareth Bale also expected to start his first match at the Bernabeu. However, Xabi Alonso and Marcelo remain out of action for the Spanish outfit.

Copenhagen, meanwhile, have no fresh injury concerns and could name the same XI that picked up the draw with Juventus, which included former Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg.

Daniel Braaten, Fanendo Adi and Nicolai Jorgensen should all keep their places in attack, but Thomas Kristensen could come also into the team.
