Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel di Maria braces give Real Madrid victory

Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel di Maria score a brace to help Real Madrid to a 3-0 win over Copenhagen in the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel di Maria both scored braces as Real Madrid beat Copenhagen 4-0 in the Champions League group stages this evening.

After a strong start by the visitors, Marcelo began to create chances for the Spanish side, setting Karim Benzema up for an early header, which went just wide.

Real were able to claim the lead 21 minutes into the tie, when Marcelo delivered the ball to Ronaldo, who was able to head in.

Marcelo continued to stretch the Copenhagen defence, but Stale Solbakken's side had a chance to get on level terms just before half time, as Nicolai Jorgensen rattled the crossbar with a header, which Luka Modric was then able to clear.

Madrid pushed for a second goal from the restart, but the visiting defenders were able to keep them on the edge of the box until the 66th minute, when Di Maria curled the ball in for Ronaldo, who converted with a header for the second time in the match.

Di Maria added a goal of his own just five minutes later, as he picked to ball up just outside the penalty area before curling it into the top corner.

Daniel Carvajal tried to set Ronaldo up for his hat-trick inside the final 10 minutes, but Thomas Delaney was on hand to block the cross for the visitors.

Di Maria added the fourth in stoppage time, with a left-footed strike from the middle of the penalty area, sealing a comfortable win for the home side.

Real sit top of Group B, while Copenhagen are third.
