The first El Clasico of the season could be postponed until December amid ongoing security issues, according to a report.

The game between Real Madrid and Barcelona, due to be played on October 26 at Camp Nou, has come under threat because a pro-Catalan independence protest is scheduled for the same day.

Tensions have risen in Barcelona over recent weeks following the imprisonment of nine Catalan politicians and activists following the failed independence referendum in 2017.

According to Marca, the Spanish government are not happy for the game to go ahead, and as Barcelona are not prepared to switch the fixtures around and travel to the Santiago Bernabeu, they want La Liga to reschedule the game.

While far from ideal for the league as it would make one of the season's biggest games a midweek affair, the proposed new date is Wednesday, December 18.

Although that date clashes with the first round of the Copa del Rey, it would not affect either club as they, along with Atletico Madrid and Valencia, have byes into round two.
