Fabio Coentrao on verge of Benfica return?

Benfica are lining up a loan move for Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao, according to a report from Spain.

Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao is reportedly on the verge of returning to his former club Benfica.

The 27-year-old has spent the past four years at Madrid following a big-money move from the Portuguese giants.

However, he has seen his first-team opportunities decline in the previous 12 months and he made just five starts in La Liga throughout last season.

According to Correio da Manha, a season-long loan has been agreed between Madrid and Benfica, with the only possible stumbling block appearing to be Coentrao's wage demands.

Coentrao has won the La Liga title and the Champions League during his time at Madrid.
