Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to extend the contract of midfielder Toni Kroos over the coming weeks.

Real Madrid are reportedly willing to extend the contract of midfielder Toni Kroos.

There was a time during the summer transfer window when it appeared possible that the Germany international's stint at the Santiago Bernabau could come to an end.

Los Blancos had recently completed the additions of Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni to compete with the likes of Casemiro, Luka Modric and Kroos in the middle of the pitch.

However, the surprise departure of the former to Manchester United increased the responsibility on Kroos's shoulders during the early weeks of 2022-23.

While the 32-year-old has only made six starts and two substitute appearances in all competitions, he has re-established himself as a key part of Carlo Ancelotti's squad.

As well as playing 80 minutes or more in six games games, Kroos has also contributed assists in recent victories over Mallorca and RB Leipzig.

According to Football Espana, the Real hierarchy are now ready to act with the offer of fresh terms, extending Kroos's existing deal past 2023.

Although the new length of contract is currently unclear, Real may restrict the extension to a year with another central midfielder due to arrive at the La Liga giants next summer.

Kroos recently commented on his future, stating that president Florentino Perez had not made an attempt to sell him during the latest transfer window.

During a podcast with OMR, Kroos said: "I know that in these eight years he has not thought for a second about selling me. At that time I came for 'only' 25 million euros, surely he could have sold me later for more money.

"I have an excellent relationship with the club, I have grown very fond of it. The president, the team, the fans, so I won't leave either."

During those eight years in Spain, Kroos has contributed 25 goals and 85 assists from his 373 appearances in all competitions.

The 2014 World Cup winner can also count three La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns among his achievements at the club.
