Kylian Mbappe hints that he could be persuaded to stay at Paris Saint-Germain and attempt to surpass Edinson Cavani's record of 200 goals for the Ligue 1 leaders.

Paris Saint-Germain attacker Kylian Mbappe has offered fresh hope that he could elect to pen a new deal with the French giants.

The 23-year-old led his side's turnaround in Saturday's Ligue 1 battle with Saint-Etienne, claiming two goals and an assist as Les Parisiens came from behind to win 3-1 at the Parc des Princes.

In doing so, Mbappe equalled Zlatan Ibrahimovic's tally of 156 goals for the capital club to move level with the Swede in PSG's all-time scoring charts, but still 44 behind Edinson Cavani's 200.

The prospect of becoming Les Parisiens' top scorer ever appeals to Mbappe, though, with the France international telling reporters: "We'll see what happens.

"I only have Cavani left to be the top scorer in the history of PSG. We'll see what happens. Being PSG's top scorer is something that cannot be ignored."

However, Mbappe is still due to become a free agent at the end of the season and continues to be linked with a free transfer to Real Madrid, who are supposedly confident about their chances of landing both him and Erling Braut Haaland.

Mbappe's trio of contributions against Saint-Etienne took him up to 24 goals and 17 assists from 34 appearances in all competitions this season, including 24 contributions from 24 Ligue 1 outings.
