Predrag Mijatovic urges Real Madrid to sign Mauro Icardi

Former Real Madrid director Predrag Mijatovic urges the Spanish giants to make a move for Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi.

Former Real Madrid director Predrag Mijatovic has urged the Spanish giants to make a move for Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi.

Los Blancos are expected to prioritise the signing of a new striker this summer, and have been linked with moves for Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski.

Mijatovic, however, has insisted that the Spanish and European champions should be going after Icardi, who has scored 22 times in 24 Serie A appearances for Inter during the 2017-18 campaign.

"I expect Real Madrid to get back to being Real Madrid next season, in other words to make big signings that have been lacking in recent sessions," Mijatovic told Corriere dello Sport.

"They need a centre-forward. Icardi and Kane are scoring a lot. I can't tell you which of the two I prefer, but unlike the English, I do know that Argentines have never had problems settling in to Spanish life and football. I like Icardi because he is young, has an eye for goal and a release clause."

Icardi's agent Wanda Nara claimed last week that talks regarding a new contract for her client, who is believed to have a release clause in the region of £100m, were 'progressing well'.
