Real Madrid are reportedly planning to revive their interest in Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi following the Italian club's exit from the Champions League.

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to revive their interest in Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi following the Italian club's early exit from the Champions League.

Inter were condemned to Europa League football in the New Year courtesy of their 1-1 draw at home to PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday night, a result which Tottenham Hotspur matched at Barcelona to clinch second place.

Madrid were linked with a summer move for Icardi during the last transfer window, but the Argentine recently hinted that he will not leave San Siro until he has won something with Inter.

However, AS reports that the club's Champions League exit could trigger a change of mind from Icardi and will be enough for Madrid to try to bring him to the Bernabeu again in January.

Inter are reluctant to lose their star asset, but may struggle to keep hold of him given their European disappointment as Icardi bids to give himself the best chance of winning silverware.

The 25-year-old has scored 12 goals in 18 games across all competitions this season, including four in six Champions League group outings despite Inter's exit.
