Montreal Impact 1-2 New York Red Bulls

New York Red Bulls move further clear at the top of the Eastern Conference with a hard-fought 10-man victory over Montreal Impact at Saputo.

New York Red Bulls have strengthened their position at the top of the Eastern Conference with a hard-fought 10-man victory over Montreal Impact at Saputo.

The Canadian side took the lead midway through the fist half as Bernardo Corradi converted from the penalty spot after Markus Holgersson had handled in the box.

Montreal defender Tyson Wahl then followed Holgersson's example by conceding a penalty for handball and Kenny Cooper emphatically dispatched the spot kick to level the scores.

Victor Palsson had received a yellow card early in the first half for a late challenge on Nelson Rivas, and Red Bulls were reduced to 10 men on 57 minutes after the Icelandic midfielder committed a similarly poor tackle on Miguel Montano.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, the visitors struck the winning goal 10 minutes later, as Dane Richards smashed home from 10 yards.
