Paul Green is thrilled to have been called up to the Republic of Ireland Euro 2012 squad.

Paul Green is thrilled after his late call-up to Republic of Ireland's Euro 2012 squad.

The 29-year-old has been drafted in to replace the injured Keith Fahey who is suffering from a groin problem. Green thought his chance had gone after he was initially placed on the standby list for the tournament, but is now stoked to have been called upon by Giovanni Trapattoni.

"I got off the phone and told my parents, because I was round there at a family barbecue, and they just started screaming and hugging me and kissing me and saying they were so proud of me," said Green.

"It's a great achievement to get in the squad because there are some good players here.

"I am obviously gutted for Keith Fahey, who has been in every squad. I room with him and I am just absolutely gutted for him, but delighted for myself."

Green remains in contract negotiations with club Derby County.
