Rotherham United to discover fate on potential points deduction this week

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans reveals that the club are expecting to find out before the weekend if they will be deducted points for fielding an ineligible player.

Rotherham United manager Steve Evans has revealed that the club will find out before the weekend whether they will be deducted points for fielding an ineligible player.

The Championship strugglers were sanctioned by the Football League last week after they played Derby defender Farrend Rawson in their 1-0 win over Brighton on Easter Monday, despite his youth loan having expired and the paperwork over an extension not being dealt with correctly.

The three-man panel is set to meet on Thursday, and Evans says that he will expect news of his club's fate in the next 24 hours.

"It's going to happen very soon," he told the Daily Mail.

"It's not my job to talk when it is and when it's not, it will be soon enough. I've been told this morning that we hope it will be concluded by the time we arrive here on Saturday, whether that's today or tomorrow I am not 100% sure."

Rotherham, who are four points clear of the relegation zone with three games remaining, host Norwich City on Saturday.
