Scotland boss Gordon Strachan: 'Stuart Armstrong is becoming a major figure'

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan says that Stuart Armstrong has a place in his latest squad as he is becoming a "major figure" in games.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has revealed that he selected Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong for his latest squad as he is becoming a "major figure" in games.

The 23-year-old received his first senior call-up around two years ago while playing for Dundee United, but he is yet to earn a cap.

In the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers against Georgia and world champions Germany, Armstrong could be handed his first cap as he was named in the squad today.

"He looks comfortable at the level he's playing with Celtic, which I like, and he's becoming a major figure in games, which I like as well," Strachan told reporters in a press conference.

"He'll be playing against, hopefully, even better players in the next few months [in the Champions League] and getting more used to the pressure of dealing with the occasions, with the crowds, that come with playing for Celtic."

Meanwhile, Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam has expressed confusion after he was left out of the squad.
