Shrewsbury Town edge close encounter

Shrewsbury Town record a 1-0 win over Walsall on Sunday to move into 15th in the League One table.

Paul Parry scored the only goal of the match as Shrewsbury Town recorded a 1-0 win over Walsall on Sunday.

It was the away side that created the first chance of the match after five minutes, but Jamie Paterson's shot was smartly pushed wide by Shrewsbury goalkeeper Chris Weale.

Walsall again came close moments later when Adam Chambers advanced on goal, but Weale was on hand to thwart the danger. The home side's goalkeeper remained the busier as the half approached its midway point with Florent Cuvelier also losing out to Weale.

Shrewsbury had to wait until the 25th minute for their first attack of the match and it brought the first goal as Parry converted from close range. Walsall continued to enjoy the better of the chances in the latter stages of the half, but they remained behind at the break.

The home side forced the first effort of the second period as Luke Summerfield struck from outside the box, but his effort was wide of the target. However, Walsall passed up a glorious chance from close range on the 60-minute mark.

Shrewsbury came close to opening up a two-goal lead when Parry struck an effort from outside the box, but his effort rattled off the crossbar. Both sides had chances in the latter stages of the match, but Parry's goal remained the only strike of the encounter.

The win moves The Shrews up to 15th in the table.
