Beleaguered Sochaux recorded a vital 2-0 victory over Nice in the Ligue 1 relegation six-pointer.

Luciano Monzon created the first chance of the match after ten minutes, when he found some space inside the 18-yard box after a neat one-two with Camel Meriem.

However, the defender spurned the opening by shooting over.

Kevin Anin then threatened just moments later, but Teddy Richert was equal to the challenge.

Abdoul Camara wasted the hosts' first chance by dragging his shot wide after being teed up by Edouard Butin.

It was Butin who put the hosts in front by notching his sixth goal of the season in first-half injury time.

Both sides had squandered chances before Marvin Martin made it two after 67 minutes to put the game beyond fellow strugglers Nice.

The result means that Sochaux climb off the bottom of the pile, and make up ground on Nice, who are in 18th place.
