Jan Bednarek: 'Southampton lost concentration against Chelsea'

Jan Bednarek admits that Southampton "lost concentration" as they blew a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against Chelsea on Saturday.

Jan Bednarek has acknowledged that Southampton "lost concentration" as they blew a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against Chelsea at St Mary's Stadium.

Dusan Tadic's 21st-minute opener and Bednarek's left-footed effort on the hour looked to be lifting Saints out of the bottom three of the Premier League table.

However, Olivier Giroud came off the bench to score a brace, either side of Eden Hazard's left-footed finish, to help the Blues to all three points.

Bednarek admitted that he and his teammates were "frustrated" to relinquish a lead for the second game in a row, following the 3-2 loss at Arsenal last time out.

"That is the second game in a row with the same situation," the Poland international told Sky Sports News. "We're frustrated - we need points but lose in the same way. We need to be more focused at the end of the game.

"From the beginning we were convinced we could win this game but they are a top team. We lost concentration and that's why we lost.

"We need to keep going, it's the only way to survive. We need to focus on working hard, playing without the ball and then staying patient on the ball.

"Except for the 10 minutes when we conceded three goals, we played a very good game. We need to keep positive and keep fighting."

Southampton remain 18th as they try to avoid slipping into the Championship for the first time since 2011-12.
